National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is observed every September in the United States by health experts, health advocates, and individuals concerned with men’s prostate cancer. Designating a month for the issue serves the purpose of:

  • Increasing public awareness of the importance of prostate cancer awareness
  • Providing easily accessible prostate cancer screenings
  • Educating about risk factors and symptoms of prostate cancer
  • Advocating for further research on prostate cancer.

  • Frequent, bloody or painful urination.
  • Difficulty controlling your bladder.

  • Decrease in semen ejaculated during sex.

Can Prostate Cancer Kill You?

NBCnews.com says it kills about 30,000 a year. In most men, prostate cancer isn’t likely to kill them before something else does. Prostate cancer is said to be the second most common cancer among men in the US.

How Fast Can Prostate Cancer Can Spread?

It can take up to 10 years before symptoms are noticeable.  It occurs more often in older men, after the age of 50, which is why men usually die ‘with’ prostate cancer than ‘because’ of prostate cancer.

What Is The Survival Rate For Prostate Cancer?

From Prostate Cancer Statistics on Cancer.net – The 5-year survival rate for most men with local or regional prostate cancer is nearly 100%. Ninety-eight percent (98%) are alive after 10 years. For men diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, the 5-year survival rate is 30%.

How To Avoid Getting Prostate Cancer?

Here are some ways to help reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.

  • Reduce Fat – Especially animal fat
  • Fruit – Eat more fruit, red fruit like watermelon, or ripe tomatoes; are very good
  • Leafy Greens – Leafy greens like Kale, Spinach, Lettuce and Arugula are very cleansing and healthy; and fight fat, they even help digest the fat you eat during fatty meals; for example a steak dinner should always be eaten with some leafy greens to help digestion
  • Veggies – Raw fruit and veggies, not canned or cooked but instead raw; red bell peppers, garlic, dill, red onions and red cabbage are good sources of vitamins and minerals to help combat any type of cancer
  • Dairy Products – Processed dairy products, like milk on the shelf that has been heat treated or ‘pasteurized’ should be avoided; highly processed cheese should be avoided and cheesy products like macaroni as well.
  • Exercise – Maintaining a healthy weight helps reduce fat in the body and detox the body from toxicity; cancer cells usually form in the lymph nodes of the body, which surround the prostate, by exercising regularly to the point of breaking a sweat, you help detox the lymph nodes of your body

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. The American Cancer Society’s estimates for prostate cancer in the United States for 2015 are:

  • About 220,800 new cases of prostate cancer
  • About 27,540 deaths from prostate cancer
