What Vaccines Do 10 Year Olds Get?

If you follow the recommended schedule and purposefully immunize your child by age of 6, your child is protected against 14 vaccine-preventable diseases. If you did not and your child missed a vaccine, at age 10, it may be time for your child to catch up.

There are also other additional vaccines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and other medical societies like the CDC.

The Recommended Child Vaccines Are…

  • Flu vaccine every year from age 7 to 10
  • Human papillomavirus or HPV vaccine to prevent both the boys and girls from HPV infection and cancers that are caused by HPV
  • DTaP and Tdap vaccines for a 10 year old who has not received any or all of the DTaP vaccine series for protection against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis
  • Hepatitis A vaccine for 10 year olds who have not received the HepA vaccine
  • Pneumococcal vaccine (PCV) for 10 year olds who have not received PCV vaccine to protect them against pneumonia
  • Meningococcal conjugate vaccine with a booster dose recommended at 16 years of age to protect against meningococcal infection like meningitis.
  • Hepatitis B vaccine to protect them against hepatitis B which can spread among pre-teens because of drug abuse
  • Inactivated poliovirus vaccine or IPV for 10 year olds who did not get an all-IPV or who did not get the third dose before age 4
  • Measles, mumps and rubella vaccine for 10 year olds who did not get the vaccine earlier
  • Chickenpox vaccine for 10 year olds who did not get the vaccine earlier or who have never had chickenpox

These are the vaccinations that 10 year olds may need to have.
